European Semester: first Informal meeting on Justice and Home Affairs in Milan

A two-day meeting on immigration, gender-based violence and personal data protection under the Italian Presidency.

The first Informal meeting of Justice and Home Affairs Ministers, during the six-month Italian Presidency of the EU Council, will be held on 8 and 9 July at "Milano Congressi" centre (MI.CO.).

On Tuesday the 8th the meeting will be chaired by the Italian Minister of the Interior Angelino Alfano. Work sessions will focus on EU future actions and priorities, such as the fight against illegal immigration and internal security. Work will then focus on the Task Force Mediterranean in view of a cooperation with Frontex Agency to implement a progressive exit strategy out of Mare Nostrum operation. The agenda also includes a reflection upon the fight against gender-based violence and a work session devoted to disaster risk reduction.

The informal summit of Justice Ministers on Wedsnesday the 9th will be chaired by the Minister Andrea Orlando. The meeting will focus on personal data protection, the European Public Prosecutor’s office and the simplification of public documents.

JHA (Justice and Home Affairs) Council is scheduled on 9 and 10 October.
